The consumer wants to harm my reputation, what should I do?

In certain specific cases, you may feel that a review is not intended to share a customer experience, but solely aims to damage your reputation (harassment, conflict of interest, blackmail, etc.).

A reporting reason is provided for this type of situation:

The review is identified as aiming to skew the average rating of the company or contains concrete elements of conflicts of interest.”

This reason can be used in particular if you are able to demonstrate that:

  • the author is a competitor, a former employee, or a person with a direct interest in harming you;
  • the consumer is engaging in blackmail or behavior comparable to harassment;
  • the same consumer is posting multiple negative reviews with a clear intent to cause harm, including on other platforms.

Important points of caution

The consumer’s freedom of expression

A consumer is fully entitled to express themselves on different platforms about their experience. The mere fact that a negative review is published in several places does not, in itself, constitute a valid reason for reporting.

For the report to be admissible, you must provide concrete evidence demonstrating an intent to cause harm (defamation, harassment, blackmail, proven conflict of interest, etc.).

Case-by-case analysis

These situations are particular in nature and are systematically analyzed on a case-by-case basis by our moderation team. Without factual and verifiable elements, the report cannot be validated.

If in doubt, feel free to contact our team to assess your situation.

How to flag the review?

  1. Go to the left side menu Review Management
  2. Click on the relevant review of your choice
  3. Respond to the consumer (the Report button will only appear after you have replied to the review)
  4. Once the Report button is available, click on it
  5. Select the reason The review is identified as aiming to skew the average rating of the company or contains concrete elements of conflicts of interest” and add a comment to explain to our moderators why this review should be rejected. You also have the option to add attachments to support your report.

The response you send to the consumer must be professional, factual, and educational.

The goal is to demonstrate your good faith and willingness to engage in dialogue!

Example:

This review does not seem to accurately reflect your experience with our company. We invite you to share your feedback in a factual and neutral manner so that we can better understand your situation and, if necessary, provide an appropriate response.

It is only after this step, and if you have evidence proving a clear intent to cause harm, that the report can be justified.
