Managing Photos in Reviews: Moderation, Publication, and Notifications

Photos posted by consumers via the review request form provide real added value in terms of UGC (User-Generated Content). They are then published on your product widgets and help enhance the credibility perceived by future buyers.

However, the processing of product reviews containing photos follows a slightly different process than standard reviews.

In this article, we explain in detail how moderation of photo reviews works, the options you have to publish or not these images, as well as the notifications related to this process.

Receive Reviews with Photos

To allow your consumers to add a photo to their product reviews, you need to update your review request form.

To do so, please reach out to your account manager or our Care team to discuss the form customization options for review requests.

Once the upload field has been added to your form, it will appear as follows:

Please note that adding a photo to a review is only possible for product reviews.

Moderation process for reviews with photos

Every product review containing an attachment (photo or other) is automatically placed under moderation.

This means the review will not be immediately visible on your site. You must approve it first from the To moderate section of your platform; or wait 7 days for it to be published automatically.

Photo publication options

You can choose whether or not to publish the photo attached to a review, independently of the review text itself.

So even if you publish the review, you can still decide not to display the attached photo.

To do this:

  1. Click on the review in question to open its details
  2. Click on Unpublished media:

  3. Then check or uncheck the option to publish the photo:

Depending on how the photo was taken, it may not appear in the correct orientation. In this case, we invite you to contact our team. We will then enable the option allowing you to rotate the photo.

Automatic publication after 7 days

Reviews under moderation do not remain in this status indefinitely.

After 7 days, the review is automatically published, even if you haven’t approved the photo yet. However, the photo itself will not be published unless you validate it.

/ US & UK clients have 14 days before the review is published.

A review can only be flagged if it meets a reason defined in our transparency guidelines. You cannot flag a review just because it is negative. You can find the full procedure here: How to flag a review.

Notifications for the consumer

No notification is sent to the consumer when their attachment (photo) is published or unpublished. This means the consumer will not be informed if their image is rejected or not published along with the review.

Retrieving the image URL

If you retrieve your reviews using the FTP automation method, you can find the product image URL in the “Full” file:
