To start syndicating your reviews, you first need to set up a product catalog. This catalog is a list of products formatted in a specific way. It must be provided by the website receiving the reviews and is used to configure syndication by identifying the products available on the site.
Reviews are linked to products in the catalog using either the GTIN/EAN or the SKU product references (intra-syndication only).
Global Trade Item Number / European Article Number is a standardized barcode used internationally to uniquely identify a product.
Stock Keeping Unit is a unique internal identifier used by a company to manage its inventory and catalog its products. It is defined by the company and can include information about the product, such as color, size, or other characteristics. For intra-syndication only.
If you already use the Verified Reviews solution to collect reviews, we already have a list of products exported from your website. We will use this list to generate an automatic product catalog based on the orders placed on your site.
The product catalog gathers unique product references and merges the associated information.
Only the use of the product widget allows a product without an order to be included in the catalog.
Features of the automatic product catalog
The catalog is recalculated every night by our system. This means that if a product receives a new order, it will automatically be added to your catalog the following night.
Each website has its own product catalog.
For example:
- If two websites have two different catalogs with distinct product references, even if they sometimes share the same GTIN, a product may be available only on one site while another product is available only on the other.
- A product reference may exist on both sites, but with different GTINs, meaning the products are different even though the reference is the same.
Avoids over-syndication by retrieving only the products available on a given site.
Allows syndication based on the GTIN even if product references differ from one site to another.
May under-syndicate reviews if a product is new and has not yet received an order.
Optimizing your automatic catalog
Using widget data
The latest version of our product widget embedded on your product pages allows us to detect if a product is available on your site, even without any orders.
If a product is detected through the widget, it will be added to the site’s catalog and missing information may be retrieved from another client site using the same product reference.
This solution works only if both sites share the same product references. For example, between your French and Spanish websites if they share the same SKU references.
Manual catalog modifications
We also allow manual modifications:
- Excluding a product: A product can be removed from the catalog without being deleted from the database.
- Manually adding a product: A product can be manually added to the catalog, particularly for a launch. Once added, it will not be removed by the automatic process, even if it later receives an order.
If you have any questions or wish to modify your product catalog, please contact our Care team using the contact icon at the bottom right of the page.
