The RGAA standard (General Accessibility Improvement Framework) is a French regulatory framework designed to ensure that digital tools are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
The RGAA therefore establishes specific criteria to improve the experience of users with special needs. Digital accessibility aims to make online services accessible to people with disabilities, based on four key principles:
Provide text alternatives for non-text content and allow adapted presentation without loss of information.
Ensure keyboard navigation, give users enough time to read, and avoid any content that may trigger seizures.
Ensure predictable page behavior and assist in correcting errors.
Ensure compatibility with current and future technologies, including assistive technologies.
Aspects of the RGAA standard
In the context of displaying online content, RGAA compliance involves several aspects:
- Optimized contrasts: Colors and contrasts are adjusted to ensure maximum readability, especially for visually impaired users.
- Keyboard-accessible navigation: Users who cannot use a mouse can complete the entire questionnaire using a keyboard or an alternative device.
- Text alternatives for media: Images, charts, or videos embedded in questionnaires include textual descriptions that can be understood by screen readers.
- A clear structure: Titles, questions, and fields are properly structured, making them easier to understand and navigate for all users, including those using assistive technologies.
Importance of RGAA
Ensuring our widgets comply with the RGAA standard helps to:
- Improve inclusivity: By making your digital tools accessible to a wider audience, regardless of physical or cognitive limitations.
- Build respondents’ trust: By offering a smooth user experience tailored to specific needs.
- Meet legal requirements: Particularly important if you are subject to digital accessibility regulations.
Widget compliance
Widgets allow you to display customer reviews, star ratings, and promote an average score on your website.
The three Verified Reviews widgets - Brand Widget, Carousel and Product - by default comply with all accessibility requirements of RGAA (version 4.1.2) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG - version 2.2).
*Audit and certification carried out in October 2025 by the external organization: Ideance
Thus, the default display of the widgets is fully compliant with accessibility standards.
Color customization
The default widget color offers sufficient contrast on a white background.
You can however:
- use a background color other than white, or
- customize the colors to match your brand guidelines
If you customize the widgets, you are responsible for maintaining contrast compliance; make sure to verify that the contrast remains sufficient.
Display via API
If you use the publication API for a custom display, you must ensure that your implementation meets the accessibility criteria mentioned at the beginning of this article, including:
- color contrast,
- keyboard navigation,
- text alternatives,
- a clear and structured hierarchy.
You must also ensure that your widgets comply with these display rules for reviews in general.
Check RGAA compliance after customization
If you make customizations, you can check your widgets’ RGAA compliance using the following tools:
- Colour Contrast Analyser
- Firefox Developer Tools
- Web Developer Extension (Firefox)
